Work

For year 2 - the ones that have just finished.

Just to let you know that if you want any of your videos from the drives or macs you will need to come in next week, Monday/Tuesday at the latest, as the drives are being formatted on Wednesday.

Furthermore, if you want any of the folders that you have submitted over the last 2 years you will also need to collect these - they are being disposed of .

Can you let me know via this post when you will be coming in so that I can be around - don't just turn up or you might be playing where's Wally.

Some people don't always read this blog, strange that, but can some of you let them know via alternative forms of communication.

Cheerio..

Work over the Summer

Nat & Matt

Please read the linked file HERE

You should both be able to undertake this research over the Summer and it is vital that it is completed by the time you get back. There is research that you will need to do and you may need to go and watch some films you have not seen already.

After you have read the document you might want to look up some of these names - hint hint.

Walter Murch, Dede Allen, Thelma Schoonmaker, Michael Kahn, Arthur Schmidt, Dylan Tichenor, Pietro Scalia, James Haygood.

Joe Letteri, John Knoll, John Dykstra, Eric Barba, Robert Legato, Dean Wright, Joel Hynek, Dennis Muren, John Gaeta, Eric Brevig, Carlo Rambaldi, H. R. Giger, Paul Franklin.

Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Klaus Badelt, Howard Shore, Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard, Michael Giacchino, Dario Marinelli, Alberto Iglesias, Gustavo Santaolalla, Ennio Morricone, Randy Newman, John Barry, Jerry Goldsmith.

There are more, and you may wish to choose individuals that relate to films/TV shows that you admire and like. However, we are looking at the best practitioners within their field!

Could you both please add a comment to show me that you have seen this post and know what you are required to do.

Good luck and have a good Summer.

EV visit this week

Can you all make sure that all of the documents on your blogs are set to anyone with a link and not private - if the EV can't access the document you will not get a grade.

After this week you can set the documents back to private if you need to.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Thanks

Paul

@Richard - Crushing Blows

Richard, find details below:

Kate Atchison, who is producing the Crushing Blows music video, has written a note for those involved in the shoot...

"Hi Guys!

Before we embark on this project, I just wanted to suggest a few things that you may want to bring with you over the two days. And also give you some basic information about the locations.

Wednesday - Meet outside college at 7am

On the first day we will be filming at Pooles Cavern in Buxton (01298 26978). There is no reception for mobile phones in the caves so this would be the contact telephone number in case of an emergency. My mobile number is 07532 130309 and I will have my phone with me at all times as an alternative contact number.

The caves are 2 million years old and have many protected rare natural rock formations. For this reason we are very lucky to have been granted access to restricted areas of natural beauty and need to bear in mind that we should act in accordance with the strict health and safety policy of the cavern manager Alan.

The caves are quite drippy and so I would advise you to wear sturdy footwear such as boots/wellies with a good grip/ walking shoes and warm layers that you can add or take off depending on the temperature. At some points we will be 200ft underground and it is pretty cold when you are standing about, a waterproof coat/cagool would also be advised.
There is toilet facilities and a small café at the visitor centre but I would advise bringing a packed lunch, drinks and snacks for the day if possible.
We will be leaving the caves at approx 17:30.

Thursday - Meet outside college for 8am

The second day we will be filming in Baddesley Ensor. This is a small village near Atherstone, Warwickshire. There will be a number of scenes filmed here and the general wooded areas are very muddy so please bring waterproof footwear such as wellies. We are not going to be near any shops so you will need packed lunch, drinks and snacks. WARM WATERPROOF CLOTHES ESSENTIAL!!
We will be leaving the location approx 16:00 (could be later, however).

You have all been assigned roles for the two days, which may change due to unforeseen circumstances. We do ask that you embrace your individual responsibilities as we are very tight on time and need to make sure that we are working safely and productively at all times.
If anyone has any queries that Mark can’t answer please do not hesitate to contact me on my mobile. If you need to leave earlier than the times given you will need to be collected from the location.

Its going to be a fantastic experience for us all to collect some amazing footage and work with the band on a video that will be used to promote their European tour this April!

I look forward to working with you all.

Kate"

CIQ Adaption

From Tomorrow I would like you all to use the new CIQ template please.

New Template:

Critical Incident Questionnaire and Learning Style

Please take about five minutes to respond to each of the questions below about today’s class. Don’t put your name on the form – your responses are anonymous. When you have finished writing, copy and paste your response to the course blog under the correct sub heading. At the start of next week’s class, I will be sharing the responses with the group. Thanks for taking the time to do this. What you write will help me make the seminars responsive to your concerns.

Your Learning Style:

1. At what moment in the class this week did you feel most engaged with what was happening?

2. At what moment in the class this week did you feel most distanced from what was happening?

3. What action that anyone (teacher or student) took in class this week did you find most affirming and helpful?

4. What action that anyone (teacher or student) took in class this week did you find the most confusing puzzling?

5. What about the class this week surprised you the most? (This could be something about your own reactions to what went on, or something that someone did, or anything else that occurs to you.)

The only difference is the addition of your individual learning style. The reason for this is to expand upon the pilot CIQ research. More specifically, I'm now looking at whether the learning style of an individual impacts on their ability to fully understand and interact with a session.

If your not sure what learning style you are I will provide you with this information tomorrow. Learning styles are either kinaesthetic, visual or auditory.

Useful book for all you budding DSLR Filmmakers

I took delivery of an inspection copy (pre-release) yesterday. I've had a quick look through and it provides some good information in relation to DSLR cinema - it mainly focuses on Canon but also Nikon.

Well worth a read !

Live TV Studio Production this Friday 6th January

REMEMBER......This Friday you will be attending the TORC Centre in Tamworth, where you will be conducting your "Live TV Studio Production".

The bus leaves at 9am so please be there at least 5 minutes before departure. The bus will not wait as we have booked studio time at the TORC centre. In order for everyone to have adequate time in the studio it is important that the bus leaves on time.

This assignment is very important as it covers one of your modules. If you do not attend you will not be able to achieve the unit.

The document about the trip (which has been given to everyone) is available HERE.

This document details the location of departure and also the timeframe.

See you ALL on Friday.

Furthermore, you will be working closely with the BTEC year 2 learners, which means that you might want to meet with them prior to Friday. The learners will be working and planning the assignment on Thursday (5th January) in CS003.

Please let me know if you will be coming in to work with the learners - this is especially important for the year 2 foundation degree learners.
